PHOTO KEYWORDING

Few point about keywording.

Keywording - Also called as photo keywording or image keywording.

What are keywords?
Word used to describe concepts, ideas and expressions.

What is keywording?
Accurate keywords selected to best describe the contents of an image.

Why to keyword the images?

The best of image cannot be found if the keywords in the image are not able to portray the contents of an image.

Before you start ask yourself a few question

1.    1   What is the image about? (People, Product, Scenic)

2.    2  Do you have enough copy space?

3.    3   Is the image isolated?

4.    4   Expression (Smile, worried, sad)

5.    5   Ethnicity (Asian, Caucasian, black)

6.    6   Male / female

7.    7   Always think like a BUYER

When images are clicked the names are as per the setting in the camera. Hence to give each image an individual identity we add titles, descriptions and relevant keywords. Since we are already aware about the stock agencies standards, it makes our job easier to keyword the images and reduces the chances of rejections due to keywording of the images.

This is an extremely important process for everyone who is interested in selling their images in the vast market of image stock agencies.

Usually the reviews mentioned in most of the images are rejected because they don't have appropriate and / or relevant keywords as per the stock standards.

For example

Alamy requires photographers to include all variants, synonyms and even misspellings but Getty and Corbis both employ thesauruses on their sites so photographers need only include the most specific terms. The sites then add the synonyms and lexical variants, such as plurals, themselves.
